Can Muslims follow Jesus?

Can Muslims follow Jesus?

Can people other than Christians also be followers of Isa Al-Masih?

Often, when  Muslims begin to study and read for themselves the holy books like the Zabur and Injil, they are beginning to realize that not everything in their traditions regarding Isa Al-Masih is accurate.

Many discover that even according to the Qur’an, Nabi Isa is far more than just an ordinary prophet. They read that he is Allah’s Word and a Spirit from Allah (Surat-un Nisa, 4:171); that he is a pure son born of a virgin (Surat-u Maryam, 19:19,20); that he had the power to open blind eyes, heal leprosy, raise the dead, and even create (Surat-u Ali Imran, 3:49); and that he was raised up to Allah Himself (Surat-u Ali Imran, 3:55). They also read that he is the Sign of the Hour (Surat-ul Zukhruf, 43:61), that his mother is the only woman in the Qur’an mentioned by name (Surat-u Maryam, 19:16) and that he is in the nearest company to Allah where he is honored in the hereafter as he was on earth (Surat-u Ali Imran, 3:45).

As we have seen, Nabi Isa is a universal messenger whom Allah sent down to the world as His Word. Indeed he is a Sign unto humankind and a mercy from Him who is the Merciful One, the Compassionate One (Surat-u Maryam, 19:21). Allah’s mercy is for all people and so Isa, the Word of Allah, is to be made available for everyone! That is why Isa Al-Masih said to his close companions:

All authority in heaven and earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations (Injil, Matthew 28:19)

…you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth (Injil, Acts 1:8)

The Injil, or the good news about Isa Al-Masih, came from Allah’s  was to be proclaimed openly to people of all communities. This Injil or the Gospel was to be made available to everyone. We see this even reflected in the Qur’an:

And remember Allah took a covenant from the People of the Book, to make it known and clear to mankind, and not to hide it (Surat-u Ali Imran 3:187)

It is clear that Allah does not limit His mercy to any particular nation or religious community. It is extended to all those who reach out in faith and obedience. Allah’s desire is to bless everyone. This was clearly revealed in his promise to Prophet Ibrahim. Allah said to him:

Through your offspring, all nations on earth will be blessed (Tawrat, Genesis 22:18)

No doubt this is what the Qur’an refers to when it admonishes the reader to remember the lineage of Ibrahim, Ishaq and Yaqub.

And commemorate Our servants Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, possessors of power and vision. Verily We did choose them for a special (purpose)-proclaiming the message of the hereafter. They were in Our sight truly of the company of the elect and the good (Surat-us Sad, 38:45-47)

The Gospel bears clear witness that the offspring of the lineage of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob through whom the whole world is to be blessed is the Anointed One, Isa Al-Masih, son of Mary! And so Isa Al-Masih is for everyone. His power and blessings are for those who reach up to him in faith and follow him wholeheartedly. But you may still wonder whether a Muslim can follow him!

At this point, notice how the Qur’an describes the followers of Isa Al-Masih:

When Jesus found unbelief on their part, he said, “Who will be my helpers to (the work of) God?” Said the disciples: “We are Allah’s helpers; we believe in Allah, and do thou bear witness that we are muslims. Our Lord! We believe in what Thou hast revealed and we follow the messenger [Isa]. Then write us down among those who bear witness” (Surat-u Ali Imran, 3:52,53)

This verse clearly reveals that the followers of Isa Al-Masih were indeed muslims! Here we need to remind ourselves of the literal meaning of the word muslim.

Who is a Muslim?
A muslim is a person who finds peace by surrendering to the will of Allah, the Almighty One. And so in the literal sense, because these individuals embraced the divine principle that peace can only come by complete submission to Allah’s will, they are referred to as muslims. That should answer the question, “Can a Muslim follow Isa?”

If an individual truly submits to the will of Allah, then he or she would be expected to follow Isa Al-Masih.

Remember that Isa Al-Masih is a Sign unto humankind, and the people of Allah, the Almighty One, are obligated to embrace His Signs!

Some people believe that the community of followers of Al-Masih came to an end when the one whom they regard as the last and final prophet appeared. However, the community of Isa’s followers continues to flourish worldwide and will prevail to the end of time. This idea is reflected by the Qur’an:

Said the disciples [of Isa]: “We are Allah’s helpers!” Then a portion of the Children of Israel believed, and a portion disbelieved. But We gave power to those who believed against their enemies, and they became the ones that prevailed ( Surat-us Saff, 61:14)

Behold! Allah said: “O Jesus! I will take thee and raise thee to Myself and clear thee (of the falsehoods) of those who blaspheme. I will make those who follow thee superior to those who reject faith to the Day of Resurrection” (Surat-u Ali Imran, 3:55)

Isa Al-Masih is still alive today, in the very presence of Allah, the Almighty One. And because he still lives, he continues to protect his people and pray on their behalf. As more and more Muslim people come to see the light of the Holy Scriptures, they will realize that if they embrace the mission of Isa Al-Masih, then they too can embrace the right to become Nabi Isa’s followers

What does the Quran say about Jesus?

What does the Quran say about Jesus?

by Yusuf · Nov 29, 2013

This seems to be a question every Muslim is curious about. Yet few take the time to search the words of the Quran. So let’s look at a few important facts about Jesus:

1. Jesus was the only person to be born of a virgin, distinguished from all humans and prophets:

She said, How shall I have a son, whom no mortal has touched, neither have I been unchaste. He said, Even so thy Lord has said: Easy is that for Me; and that We may appoint him a sign unto men and a mercy from Us. It is a thing determined.
(Sura Miriam 20 and 21)

2. Jesus is different from all other prophets because he is called the Kalimatullah (Word of Allah)

The Messiah, Isa son of Mary, Allah’s Messenger, and His Word…
(Sura The Women 171; Sura al Imran 40).

3. Only Jesus was born from the spirit of Allah; for this reason He did not need a traditional, genetic birth.

The Masih, Isa Son of Mary, Allah’s Messenger, and His Word that He committed to Mary, and a Spirit from Him.
(Sura The Women 169)

4. Only Isa spoke while in the cradle.

[Jesus, the baby] said, “Indeed, I am the servant of Allah . He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet…
(Sura Miriam 19:30)

Also, the Quran tells us that Christ needed no one to teach Him anything, not even how to speak.

Who hath directed the spirit of the Lord, or being His counselor hath taught Him knowledge and showed to Him the way of understanding.
(Isaiah 40:1,13-14)

5. Jesus was the only perfect prophet. All other prophets have sinned. Even though this not a popular viewpoint, their actions and sins were mentioned in both the Quran and Taurat. Isa was the only sinless one.

Highly honored shall He (Isa) be in this world and the next.
(Sura al Imran 45)

Also, the influential Arab writer and imam Al-Bukhari taught about the perfection of Prophet Jesus:

Satan pokes with his finger the side of every human at birth, except Jesus, son of Mary; when he went to poke Him, he poked the curtain.
(Hadith of Sahih Bukhari Vol 4, Book 54)

6. Jesus was distinguished from all other prophets because, through Allah, he gave life:

I will create for you out of clay as the likeness of a bird; then I will breathe into it and it will be a bird.
(Sura al Imran 42)

7. Only Jesus was could know other men’s secrets

I will inform you too of what things you eat, and what you treasure up in your houses. Surely, in that is a sign for you if you are believers.
(Sura Al Imran 48)

8. Jesus performed miracles and signs which no other prophet could.

And I will also heal the blind and the leper…
(Sura Al Imran 48)

9. Only Jesus could raise the dead.

And I will bring life to the dead…
(Sura al Imran 48 & Sura The Table 110)

(The Injil also tells the story of Jesus raising Lazarus after he had been dead several days)

10. Only Jesus received the honored title of “the Masih” (i.e. the chosen one).

The Masih, Isa son of Miriam, was Allah’s Messenger, and His Word committed to Miriam…
(Sura The Women 169)

The Taurat made known the real identity of the Masih, saying:

Behold the days come, says the Lord, that I will raise unto Dawud a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgement and justice in the earth… and this is the name whereby He shall be called: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
(Jeremiah 23:5-6)

11. Jesus was a Sign and Mercy from Allah

Unto men who fell under the burden and the shackles of sin; for which, Allah’s justice and holiness condemned them to eternal perdition. For this reason the only Savior, who can offer eternal salvation to men came to be a Mercy from Allah.
(Sura Miriam 20)

12. Only Jesus would die, yet also predict before he died that he would come back to life.

I will cause thee to die, and I will raise thee to Me, and I will purify thee of those who believe not. I will set thy followers above the unbelievers till the resurrection Day
(Sura al Imran 55)

13. Jesus will come to this world to judge the living and the dead.

The Arab teacher Al-Bukhari confirmed this fact, saying:

The Last Hour will not come until the Son of Mary come down as the just Judge.

Has the Injil been corrupted?

Has the Injil been corrupted?

by Yusuf · Jun 24, 2011

From time to time I hear the questions about whether the Injil or true or if it has been changed or corrupted. This is why some Muslims are so shy and hesitant to read the Holy Injil.

What does the Quran say?

According to the Quran the Injil is to be trusted and studied. The Quran says that the books of Moses (the Torat), the Psalms (Zabur), and the gospel (Injil) were all given by God.

About the Torat – (Qu’ran, Sura Al Baqarah 2:87)

We gave Moses the Book and followed him up with a succession of messengers

About the Psalms / Zabur – (Qu’ran, Al Nisa 4:163)

We have sent thee inspiration, as We sent it to Noah and the Messengers after him: we sent inspiration to Abraham, Isma’il, Isaac, Jacob and the Tribes, to Jesus, Job, Jonah, Aaron, and solomon, and to David We gave the Psalms

About the Gospel / Injil – (Qu’ran, Sura Al Imran 3:3)

It is He Who sent down to thee (step by step), in truth, the Book, confirming what went before it; and He sent down the Law (of Moses) and the Gospel (of Jesus) before this, as a guide to mankind, and He sent down the criterion (of judgment between right and wrong).

Also, Allah helpfully explains to us in Sura Ma’idah 5:46:

And in their footsteps We sent Jesus the son of Mary, confirming the Law that had come before him: We sent him the Gospel: therein was guidance and light, and confirmation of the Law that had come before him: a guidance and an admonition to those who fear Allah

We see that the Quran states that the Torth, the Zabur, and the Injil were all given by God.

If anyone – Muslim, Christian, Hindu, Athiest or anybody else – claims that the Injil is corrupted, then it would seem they do not believe the word of Allah, since the Qu’ran says that the Word of God cannot be altered:

“Rejected were the messengers before thee: with patience and constancy they bore their rejection and their wrongs, until Our aid did reach them: there is none that can alter the words (and decrees) of Allah. Already hast thou received some account of those messengers” (Qu’ran Al An’am 6:34).

“The word of thy Lord doth find its fulfillment in truth and in justice: None can change His words: for He is the one who heareth and knoweth all,” (Qu’ran Al An’am 6:115).

“For them are glad tidings, in the life of the present and in the Hereafter; no change can there be in the words of Allah. This is indeed the supreme felicity,” (Qu’ran, Sura Yunus 10:64).

When Muhammed (pbuh) was alive, he claimed to receive the revelation of the Qu’ran from Allah. This means that at that time the Bible, which was in existence, could not have been corrupted because the Qu’ran states that God’s word cannot be corrupted.

The question I have for any unbelievers is this: When and where was the Bible corrupted, since the Qu’ran says that the Torah, the Psalms, and the Gospel are from Allah and Allah’s words cannot be changed?

What is the Straight Path to Paradise?

What is the Straight Path to Paradise?

by Yusuf · Nov 6, 2009

A road or path always leads us to something or someone. The Straight Path mentioned in this ayat is the road that leads us to Allah.

3:51 Truly! Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. This is the Straight Path.

There is a straight and direct road to Allah. There are no bypasses or turns. It is a direct path which means that it does not stop short of its intended goal which is heaven. So who can travel on this path to Allah?

Have you ever heard someone say, “If I do enough good works, Allah will let me go to be with Him in heaven after I die?” The one who says this is blind and insults the holiness of Allah. No matter how many good works we do, we can never remove our sin.

Allah is 100% holy and no sin can come into His presence. Remember that Adam was removed from the presence of Allah because of his one sin. People who are 99.9% cannot go to heaven. In fact there is no such thing as 99.9% holiness; holiness is always 100%. Only people who have their sins removed from them can go to be with Allah. This is sad news for us, because we have all sinned. Our only hope is that Allah will create a way for us to be totally cleansed of our sin and our sinful nature.

3:52 But when Isa came to know of their disbelief, he said: “Who will be my helpers in the cause of Allah?” The disciples said: “We will be Allah’s helpers. We believe in Allah, and bear witness that we are muslims (i.e. we submit to Allah).”

3:53 Our Lord! We believe in that which You have sent down, and we follow him that You have sent (Isa). Enroll us among those who witness (to the truth)

In order to get all of the people of the world to worship Allah alone, Isa asked for some helpers. A small group of men came forward saying that they are Muslims and that they will help Isa. They said that they believe in Allah’s message and the messenger (‘Isa) that He sent down. Followers of Isa are Muslims!

Is the Injil True?

Is the Injil True?

by Yusuf · Nov 6, 2007

Allah taught Isa the holy Kitabs. And sincere and obedient Muslims read and understand all the Kitabs.

3:48 And He (Allâh) will teach him the Scripture and wisdom, and the Taurat and the Injil (Gospel).

Allah also instructed Muhammad, peace be on him, that if he had a question about any message from heaven, that he should look for the answer among those who read the “Before” Kitabs. Sura Yunnus 10:94 says:

“And if thou (Muhammad) art in doubt concerning that which We reveal unto thee, then question those who read the Scripture (that was) before thee. Verily the Truth from thy Lord hath come unto thee. So be not thou of the waverers.”

I have found the Book of Wisdom (Mesal), the Taurat, and Injil Kitabs. These Kitabs have been translated directly from the original languages and are trustworthy. A friend of mine said that reading the “Before” Kitabs makes him feel like a complete Muslim. A cow with only one leg cannot stand, but when he stands on all four legs, he is strong.

A sincere Muslim reads all the Kitabs.

Sura 4:136 O ye who believe! Believe in Allah and His messenger and the Scripture which He hath revealed unto His messenger, and the Scripture which He revealed aforetime. Whoso disbelieveth in Allah and His angels and His scriptures and His messengers and the Last Day, he verily hath wandered far astray.

Have the “Before” Kitabs been changed? The Quran says, “No!” Is Allah not powerful enough to protect His message?

Read in the Quran Sura Al-An’am 6:115-116:

Those unto whom We gave the Scripture (aforetime) know that it is revealed from thy Lord in truth. So be not thou (O Muhammad) of the waverers. Perfected is the Word of the Lord in truth and justice. There is no one that can change His words. He is the Hearer, the Knower.

The next time someone tells you that the kitabs have been changed, ask them,
“Do you have proof that the kitabs have been changed?”

Their answer is always the same,
“No, I do not have proof, I only heard that they have been changed.”

This argument would not stand up in any court room.
